Can I buy Colosseum tickets at the door?
It is usually possible to purchase Colosseum tickets at the door. The Colosseum capacity is 3000 people and during peak season, tickets do run out.
There is long often waiting at the Colosseum ticket office.
Other locations to buy tickets for the Colosseum include nearby ticket offices at the Palentine Hill and the Roman Forum, which usually have less crowds.
Can you buy tickets to the Colosseum online?
With Rome experiencing a boom in tourism since the pandemic, Colosseum tickets are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. Therefore if you plan to visit Rome’s most iconic monument, it is recommended to purchase tickets for the Colosseum in advance.

With obtaining your Skip the line ticket online, you have priority entrance. Not having to wait in the entrance line for hours saves a lot of time. Plus, the ticket office only sells tickets for the same day. Still, if you book your ticket online, you can spread your visits to the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill across two days

Colosseum tickets are valid for 24 hours, allowing one entrance to the Colosseum and one entrance to the archaeological area of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.

Can you visit the Colosseum for free?
Some colosseum visitors are eligible for free entry year-round.
These include:
- Anyone under 18 years of age (from any country)
- Anyone disabled and their companion if the companion is assisting that person. You must show proof of disability.
- European tour guides
Be prepared to show ID. Even those entitled to free entry need to book a date and time in advance.
Each first Sunday of the month, the Colosseum provide free entrance for everyone
It is also possible to enter the Colosseum Archaeological Park free of charge on 3 additional days:
- April 25 (Anniversary of the Liberation)
- June 2 (Republic Day)
- November 4 (National Unity and Armed Forces Day)
Can You Use Roma Pass for the Colosseum?
The Roma Pass can be used to enter the colosseum for free. With it, you can also skip the line at the Colosseum entrance and have direct access, however you must reserve your date and time slot in advance. You can do this by going onto the CoopCulture website
On the CoopCulture website you have the option of booking the Colosseum with the Roma Pass together (to be picked up when you visit the Colosseum)
Can you enter the Colosseum with a dog
No, however it is possible to enter the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill with small dogs (weighing maximum 10/12 kg).
The Colosseum, the Domus Aurea and all closed areas are excluded.
Admission for dogs is free of charge.
